Jeannette Kates


Jeannette Kates, PhD, AGPCNP-BC, GNP-BC, FPCN is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and a Nurse Scientist in the Department of Medical Oncology Nursing at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kates has experience teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. She currently teaches in the Master of Professional Nursing program at Penn Nursing.

Dr. Kates holds two national board certifications as a gerontological nurse practitioner and an adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner. She has extensive clinical experience in oncology, geriatrics, and palliative care. In her career as a nurse practitioner, Dr. Kates has practiced in outpatient medical oncology, primary care in a continuing care retirement community, geriatric home-based primary care, and clinic- and home-based palliative care. She was inducted as a Fellow in Palliative Care Nursing by the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association. Dr. Kates’s research is broadly focused on improving quality of life and reducing healthcare disparities for those with serious and complex illnesses and their caregivers.
